The object
Huang co-invented optical coherence tomography, an interferometric imaging system that resolves internal tissue layers without contact. Its laser, optics and detector hardware transformed retinal examination into a fast noninvasive procedure and created an imaging platform used beyond ophthalmology, including cardiovascular applications.
What David did
Co-invented optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging hardware.
Why it matters
NIHF identifies the three-person team as OCT inventors and describes its use across ophthalmology, cardiology and other fields.
Living-status check
NIHF announced David Huang as a 2025 inductee on its dated class release, direct evidence of participation in that year.
