Wang Tao, known as Frank Wang, designed and manufactured a helicopter flight-control prototype while at HKUST, then established DJI around a suite of flight-control technologies. DJI's XP 3.1 and later Phantom platform helped make camera-equipped multirotors usable beyond specialist model-aircraft circles.
