Gebisa Ejeta developed drought-tolerant, Striga-resistant sorghum hybrids, tangible seed products designed for difficult growing conditions. His HD-1 and related lines increased grain yields, helped establish a commercial sorghum-seed industry in Sudan, and gave farmers a more resilient crop where food security is precarious.
