The object
Fujimoto co-invented optical coherence tomography, an interferometric imaging system that reveals tissue layers without contact. OCT’s light source, scanning optics and detector hardware made fast high-resolution retinal imaging practical, creating a consequential physical instrument class used in ophthalmology, cardiology and other clinical fields.
