Jeff Dahn

Long-life lithium-ion battery electrode materials and lifetime tester

CanadaEvidence: high confidenceChecked July 2026

Jeff Dahn co-invented positive-electrode materials used in lithium-ion cells for power tools, electric vehicles and grid storage, and his lab invented a high-precision lifetime tester. Canada's research council reports that his work affects nearly every part of lithium-ion battery research and helped demonstrate batteries capable of decades of use.

01

What Jeff did

Co-invented positive-electrode materials used in lithium-ion cells and a high-precision battery-lifetime tester.

02

Why it matters

NSERC links Dahn's inventions to lithium-ion cells used in power tools, grid storage and electric vehicles, as well as dramatically longer testing and service life.

03

Living-status check

Dalhousie's May 2024 Aurum Award profile identifies Dahn as professor emeritus and describes his continuing battery-lifetime research.
