Mathias Fink co-invented shear-wave elastography, a physical ultrasound-imaging technique that launches and tracks shear waves to map tissue stiffness. This gives clinicians a non-invasive way to assess elasticity-related disease indicators and has moved from wave-physics research into medical ultrasound systems.
