Adam Steltzner led systems engineering for the Curiosity rover’s entry, descent and landing hardware, including the Skycrane system that lowered the rover to Mars on tethers. The approach enabled a one-ton scientific rover to reach the surface without the airbags or large landing platform used by earlier missions.
