Christian von Koenigsegg

Freevalve camless engine valve-control hardware

SwedenEvidence: high confidenceChecked July 2026

Christian von Koenigsegg developed the Freevalve approach to camless engine control, replacing a fixed camshaft with individually actuated valves. The manufactured valve-train hardware gives engineers independent timing and lift control, offering a major new route to combustion-engine efficiency, response and emissions performance.

01

What Christian did

Created and led the engineering of Freevalve's electronically actuated camless valve-control system for combustion engines.

02

Why it matters

Freevalve commercialises the camless system with vehicle manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers, making a long-running experimental engine idea practical for production development.

03

Living-status check

Freevalve's current 2026 management page identifies von Koenigsegg as chairman and chief executive, positive evidence he was alive in 2026.
