Ron Allum

DEEPSEA CHALLENGER full-ocean-depth submersible

AustraliaEvidence: high confidenceChecked July 2026

Ron Allum co-designed the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER, the one-person submersible that carried James Cameron to Challenger Deep. Its vertical, full-ocean-depth construction combined pressure-resistant systems, batteries and syntactic foam to make a rapid descent to the planet's deepest known ocean location possible.
